Power button on gs7 edge stopped out of nowhere

I just happened to realize this morning at work my power button had lost all function to turn on the screen turn off anything like that I've looked up it up and the best i found things i found said to factory reset but that's the last thing I want to do if I can avoid it so please help if you can
