The Snapdragon 845 Chromebook will have a 12.3-inch detachable display

While we've been trying to figure out what the next Pixelbook on the horizon will be, multiple commits on the Chromium Gerrit have kept us up to date with some upcoming devices. cheza has got to be one of the most interesting of them all, as it's the first Chromebook to be powered by a Qualcomm processor. Now according to yet another commit on the Chromium Gerrit, cheza will have a 12.3-inch detachable display at a resolution of 2160×1440. That's a 3:2 aspect ratio.

The exact panel mentioned is the Innolux TV123WAM eDP display. It supports a high resolution of 2160×1440, which is 211PPI on a 12.3-inch panel. That's perfectly fine for pretty much any display that isn't being used for virtual reality. It's a 60Hz panel as well, so no higher-than-average refresh rates like on the Razer Phone. A 12.3-inch screen is pretty large for a tablet too, and given the recent Android-ification of Chrome OS, many can think of cheza as a large Android tablet. You can run all of your normal Chrome OS apps on it alongside the whole host of Android apps available on the Google Play Store – on a huge screen as well. Complete with the included stylus you've got yourself a great productivity and media device.

In terms of other goodies relating to the display, nothing else has been revealed. Innolux primarily makes TFT LCD panels, so it's almost certainly not an IPS or AMOLED panel. That doesn't tell us a huge amount though. 3:2 is a little bit of an uncommon aspect ratio for a Chromebook, so it appears that the idea behind this device is that you will mostly be using it in its detached form factor. Interestingly, the Pixelbook also had a 12.3-inch 3:2 aspect ratio display, but it was a slightly higher resolution. It is worth mentioning that the Innolux TV123WAM was also present in the Dell Latitude 5285, making it a somewhat old panel too. It could well be possible that cheza is the Pixelbook 2018 version, but we'll have to wait and see.
