Samsung has had a busy day so far. They finally made the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 official, along with Fortnite for Android. Next up on the list is the Samsung Galaxy Watch. This is the device that first popped up as the Gear S4, but was then rebranded as the Galaxy Watch. Samsung is moving their smartwatches to be more in line with the Galaxy phone brand.
For a brief point in time, there were rumors claiming the Galaxy Watch would run Google's Wear OS. Those claims were quickly put to rest. The Galaxy Watch does indeed run Tizen 4.0. Samsung claims they have eliminated the need to charge the watch daily with battery life "up to 80+ hours." To further untether the device, it has LTE connectivity. The Galaxy Watch will work across 30 carriers in 15 countries.
The watch is pretty chunky. There are a 46mm and 42mm option, with 1.3 and 1.2-inch Super AMOLED displays. Some of the other features include IP68 water and dust protection, Exynos 9110 processor, 472/270 mAh battery, heart rate monitor, and Gorilla Glass DX+.
The 46mm model will be available for $350, while the 42mm model is $300. Pricing for the LTE variants will depend on the carrier. Samsung did not give a specific launch date, but it will be sometime later this year.
