Wileyfox is a British startup company with the goal of providing affordable products without compromising on quality. We've seen a number of startups formed around this idea only to find out that it is an incredibly difficult task to pull off. We saw this company's plans go south when they went into administration just last month. However, we have learned they plan to return with new products in 2018 and have plans to update the existing Swift 2 series with Android 8.1 Oreo.
For those unaware, a British company that goes into administration means it is being taken under the management of a court-appointed administrator. These administrators are appointed by either the courts, creditors, or company directors with the goal of seeing if the company is salvageable. Going into administration doesn't mean they are going out of businesses even though that is entirely possible. However, if things aren't too bad and the proper steps are taken, it could allow the company enough time to repay outstanding debts without being pressured by creditors.
As of March 19th, another British smartphone maker called STK has agreed to a licensing deal with the Wileyfox Group. This licensing deal allows STK to sell the Wileyfox handsets in the United Kingdom, and throughout Europe and South Africa as well. The plans go beyond just allowing STK to sell Wileyfox phones, as they have also agreed to offer after-sales care and services (which includes customer support). As of right now, we're told that STK will proceed and sell the Wileyfox Swift 2, Swift 2 Plus, and Swift 2 X in those regions.
Not only that, but STK will also be working with Wileyfox on a roadmap to introduce new devices during the second half of 2018. The news continues to get better for current owners of Wileyfox devices as STK has also committed to updating the existing Swift 2 series to Android 8.1 Oreo within the next three weeks. These owners will even start to see STK's Care application on their device, which allows the customer to receive 24/7 live chat support directly on their device.
