Sony Xperia XZ Pro with 5.7″ OLED 4K Display Reportedly Launching at MWC 2018

Sony might be gearing up to announce a new flagship smartphone. That's according to a report in Chinese news site MyDrivers, which states that the company will take the wraps off the Xperia XZ Pro at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona. Previous rumors pegged the phone for the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show, but the launch appears to have been pushed back to next month.

If the report is to be believed, the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will rock a 5.7-inch, 4K OLED display in an IP68 chassis, meaning that it'll be able to withstand dust, sand, and up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) of water for 30 minutes. Complementing the Xperia XZ Pro's flagship build are flagship specs: The phone's reportedly powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip paired with 6GB of RAM, with 128GB of onboard storage and support for expansion via a micro SD card. (A second variant will reportedly have dual SIM slots.) It'll also have a 3,420 mAh battery and some version of Android Oreo, according to the report.

The Xperia XZ Pro won't skimp in the camera department. It's said to have a dual camera setup consisting of a 18MP shooter with a 1.33μm pixel size and a 12MP camera with a 1.38μm pixel size. The front-facing camera is 13MP, but there isn't any information regarding its pixel size or aperture yet.

The Sony Xperia XZ Pro, which is set to debut after the CES 2018  announcement of Sony's high-end smartphone portfolio, which includes the Xperia XA2 Ultra, is rumored to cost about 6000 yuan ($930). That puts it in flagship territory with the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S8 Plus, Google's Pixel 2 XL, and Apple's iPhone X, and it'll have to impress if it wants to stand out from the crowd.
