Xiaomi Mi 6 to be Officially Unveiled Tomorrow

It's been more than a year since Xiaomi's last flagship in the Mi lineup, the Mi 5 was released. With Qualcomm's latest set of SoC coming out, it is time for Xiaomi to refresh the lineup with better specs to prepare itself for another year of cutthroat competition.

Xiaomi's social media page on Weibo has confirmed the unveiling of their latest flagship for tomorrow. On April 11, 2017, Xiaomi will unveil the new Mi 6 at noon, Beijing time.

The Mi 6 is expected to sport the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Seeing how Samsung has reportedly hogged up most of the supply of the SD 835, it is unlikely that the Mi 6 will be available for purchase on launch with users having to wait for a while before they can purchase the device.

For other specs, the Mi 6 will remain a pocket-friendly device with a 5.15″ FHD display, just like its predecessor. There are talks of a bigger-screen Mi 6 Plus that will also be launched alongside, rumored to bump up the display size to 5.7″. There will be a few RAM and storage combinations for the device, very typical of a Xiaomi device. There is even an 8GB RAM (plus 256GB storage) model rumored, which really works towards future proofing the device considering the memory-abusive nature of MIUI.

The pricing of the various RAM-storage combinations is rumored as below:

Device RAM Storage Price (Approx. Conversion to USD)
Mi 6 4GB 32GB CNY 1999 ($290)
4GB 64GB CNY 2299 ($332)
6GB 128GB CNY 2699 ($391)
Mi 6 Plus 4GB 64GB CNY 2599 ($376)
6GB 128GB CNY 2999 ($434)
8GB 256GB CNY 3499 ($507)

Interestingly, the base variant of the Mi 6 is rumored to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 instead of the SD835 present in all the other models.

The new Mi 6 is also rumored to have an Iris Scanner placed above the display, as well as have an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded in the oddly shaped Home Button (as seen on the leaked front panels). We'll have to wait for the official announcement to know more about the rest of the specifications of the device.

What are your thoughts on the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus based on current rumors? Would you like to see a device with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
